Tems Unveils New Single “Love Me Jeje”

Tems, a Nigerian singer, has recently had a quick ascent to fame. In 2020, she released her first EP, For Broken Ears, and the following year, If Orange Was a Place, her follow-up project. Her 2021 collaboration with fellow Nigerian musician Wizkid, "Essence," garnered her a Grammy nomination; her 2022 collaboration with Drake and Future, "Wait For U," won her first Grammy.

Tems declared last week at her first-ever Coachella performance that her debut album Born in the Wild was finished and on its way. With the singles "Me & U" and "Not an Angel," she gave fans a preview of what was to come last year. Now, she's back with the most recent release from the project.

Inspired by the popular song of the same name published in 1997 by Nigerian singer-songwriter Seyi Sodimu, "Love Me JeJe" is currently available. Sodium himself was ecstatic about the accolade when she debuted the song during her first Coachella show last weekend. He posted on Instagram following the performance, saying, "This made my day." "What makes music so beautiful is that it unites us across time and generations."

In the song, Tems expresses the happiness of being loved over a sunny guitar beat. The word "Jeje" loosely translates to "gentle" or "softly" in Nigerian. Day and night, it's unconditional, has me living softly / Love me JeJe, love me tender, she sings. "If now no longer you, then I do not wanna know, I do not need no story."
